The exact inauguration date has yet to be confirmed.

Sources at the Development Ministry have confirmed to Diario Sur that part of Málaga’s new second ring road is to open before the end of the year.

It affects two sections, numbers 3 and 4 of the four sections into which construction has been split, which will open during the last week of December. No exact date has been given as yet, but it’s understood that the government refused the contractors’ request to open in January, saying it must take place during 2010.

ANDALUCIA’S top chef Dani Garcia has seen his name up in stars… again.

The award-winning cook – who was the first in the region to win a Michelin star with Tragabuches in Ronda – has just been awarded his second star with Marbella restaurant Calima.

It is only the second restaurant to win two stars in Andalucía and he is the youngest chef in Spain to win the accolade.

He said: “I’m well chuffed, but I have a bitter sweet taste in my mouth as I feel the region is not being properly rewarded for its great cooking.”

Property Point Marbella - Marbella Spain's Tourism at 5-year High

Tourism figures are also reportedly up across Spain. Marbella in particular shines through, with third-quarters data reflecting strong improvements for the months of July, August and September in the Costa del Sol.

According to the latest figures released from the Institute of National Statistics, Marbella's tourism industry is well on the road to recovery. This summer, the municipality of Marbella has registered a seven percent increase in hotel occupancy and a twelve percent increase in overnight stays in the area. More good news is that the average stay in hotels has risen from 4.25 to 4.46 days.

Marbella Mayoress, Ángeles Muñoz, said the report clearly shows 'recovery' of the town's tourism. Muñoz is excited about the future of Marbella and told the press: "These are the best figures we've seen in the last five years."

The five-day break of Michelle Obama and daughter Sasha in Marbella staying at the luxurious Villa Padierna Hotel will have made a difference to these figures. With them, came national and international press which generated wonderfully positive publicity for the area and subsequently, more tourists.

Other contributing factors apart from the obvious abundance of sunshine, sea and sangria, are some great events that the city hosted. The fabulous Björn Again ABBA tribute concert, X-Factor extravaganza, International Festival of Art or the Food & Sun Festival have all played a part in luring holidaymakers to the town this year.

With the Andalucían region coming out on top (compared to other regions in Spain), it looks like things are finally looking up for tourism, something the region's economy relies heavily upon.
Good news also for the property market in the same period, albeit in a more timid manor. The National Institute of statistics reveals that August was the best month in housing sales since May 2008. Confirmation of this improvement comes from the latest data provided by the Association of Registrars of property, movable property and commercial. Based on this data, the Association of Registrars has detected 'a clear recovery in the sales process'.

Property Point Marbella - Traffic fines to be published on the internet in Spain

The new service starts on Thursday this week

The DGT traffic authority in Spain is to start publishing traffic fines on the internet. From Thursday this week a list of all those drivers who the DGT have been unable to locate will be placed online.

Until the now the official notification of fines has been placed in the Official Provincial Bulletin, but one in three is not paid as the offending driver is not located. Now it is presumed that the driver does have internet access.

Ramón Ledesma from the DGT said that the current system often resulted in guilty drivers’ first finding out about their fine when their bank account is embargoed.

Internet users will also be able to access a new ‘Buzón electrónico’ where, be they companies or individuals, they can see notifications of fines, and other items of interest, such as ITV/MOT reminders.

Currently 15% of traffic fines are paid over the internet.

Property Point Marbella - Two urbanisations made legal in Marbella

Both were built during the time the GIL Party was in power in the town

Marbella Town Hall has, this Tuesday, given the go-ahead to regularise more than 200 properties which were built illegally during the time the GIL Party was in power in the town. It affects two developments of a total of 225 houses, which are now made legal under Marbella’s new local development plan, the PGOU, and the compensations system set out under the plan.

The Town Hall gave the names of the urbanisations concerned in a press release on Tuesday as Santa María Green Hills, in Las Chapas, and El Palmeral in Nueva Andalucía.

In the first case, the developer’s compensation to the Town Hall for exceeding the ‘buildable’ area is payment of more than half a million €, plus carrying out improvements to the road which passes in front of the urbanisation. The agreement for the developer of El Palmeral, in addition to monetary compensation, is ceding an area of land to be used for social housing and another area for a park. Responsibility for creating the park will fall to the development company itself.

It’s understood the Town Hall hopes to regularise the situation of 1,000 of the 16,500 properties to be made legal under the PGOU before the end of this year.
