The Terminator for EU President?

After stepping down as Governor of California earlier this year many believed that maybe Arnie was heading back to the movie world to work on a new film but in fact it has been revealed that the real plan is to continue in the world of politics and actually work towards the position of EU President! 

According to Arnie’s chief of staff, the EU will be looking for a president with a much higher profile to unify Europe and he believes that an Austrian born individual who then went off to America to progress in his career in the movies is the one who can do this.

The news has come as a bit of a surprise to some in the EU and a few eyebrows have been raised. It’s certain that Arnie Schwarzenegger would raise the profile of the presidency position but whether this is the absolute desired effect is another thing entirely for some.

The position of President of the EU was created in late 2009 having previously been an unofficial position occupied by the head of the state or government of the member state that would have held the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union at the time.

The primary aims of the Presidency are political and involve chairing and organising the meetings of the European Council, bringing together member countries and reporting duties.

As the position is not elected, it may mean that Arnie has less of a chance up against other favourites such as Tony Blair but that’s not to say that having him interested in running for the position has done a great deal to raise the profile of the position anyway!
