Drivers are not allowed to spend more than 45 minutes in the historic city centre
Traffic levels were reported to have fallen in the historic centre of Sevilla by 17% on the first day of new mobility restrictions in the zone, with the City Hall claiming greater fluidity.
From last Friday the Sevilla City Hall is fining drivers who spend more than 45 minutes in the city centre to the tune of 70 €.
Cameras control the entry and exit roads to the central area where 62,000 people live. 25,700 residents’ vehicles have been accredited and there are a series of exceptions, such as those travelling to hotels for example.
The 45 minute limit applies Monday to Saturday between 8am and 10pm.
Not everyone is happy with the arrangement. Consumers’ association FACUA has said that ‘chaos’ surrounds the plan and claims that there are ‘errors, anomalies, and serious points missing from the information being provided to users’. FACUA claims that there are exit roads where no cameras are present, and reports there have seen several cases where people have been charged inaccurately.
